Lily Corkill, fr.

Of Moss and Men is a murder mystery comedy that takes place in the 1920s. The two main characters Mickey and Minnie Moss, played by Rylee Olson and Allie Cassel, buy an old gangster’s inn and want to fix it up for business. Meanwhile, there is loot in the house that was hidden by the original gang members, many people ‘take shelter’ from the storm to look for the loot. As it happens, the plumber finds it and is murdered. The two inn owners take it upon themselves to find out who it was, the story ends with a twist you don’t expect. The characters in this play feature an array of students, ranging from ninth to twelfth graders. There were 25 people who participated in this year’s play; including our directors Ruth Hutson , our science teacher, and Adam Gudenkauf, the English teacher.  The performances, scheduled on November eighth and ninth, were a success. “We had a little trouble learning our lines,” says Mrs. Hutson, “But we put on a good production, and the audience enjoyed it; that was our goal.”

Blue Valley travels to Indianapolis for National FFA Convention

Lily Corkill, fr.

The FFA National Convention has always been an exciting experience for young and new FFA members. This convention, for students and teachers who are involved in agriculture, has maintained its place as one of the world's largest student conventions. This year was the 92nd year anniversary; with 69,944 attendees and over 400 exhibiting companies, this is one of the biggest gatherings of the FFA yet! From Blue Valley, only ten people went; two adults, and eight students. Freshmen Aric Cassel, Logan Schanks, Philip Desbian, Bryce Hoeltzel, and Lily Corkill, Sophomores Jacie LaBlanc, and Morgan Spangler, Senior Brook Staton, advisor Anthony Meals, and student teacher and copilot Carol Romans. When asked about their favorite part of convention, Jacie LaBlanc answered, “My favorite part was hearing the speaker. She was really funny and I really liked her speech about 100 fears.” There were two main speakers, Michelle Poler and Bob Goff. They both spoke about living your life to the fullest, and facing those fears that hold you back. The group did a number of activities and events outside of the convention including: an escape room, volunteering at a horse therapy center, Stuckey farms tour, and an Elanco facility tour. This opportunity to meet new people and try new things is an experience every FFA member should have. We’re sure that the FFA National Convention will be around for years to come.
