Good morning Blue Valley families. As you or your students drive to school this morning, give yourself some extra time and travel safely.
SCHOOL UPDATE FOR TUESDAY JANUARY 26th.
Hi Blue Valley families, I have spoken to several staff and looked at the weather for overnight and early tomorrow. We will have school as normally scheduled. A couple of our experienced bus drivers have been driving the roads on both sides of the lake today and this evening and feel comfortable with transporting students. For those students and staff who drive, please allow extra time when going to school. If something changes between now and then I will send out another message. Thank you for your patience as we navigate our first wintery weather experience together. Be safe!!
The high school basketball game tomorrow at Wakefield will start at 4:45 with two quarters of jv girls followed by varsity girls and then varsity boys. Admission policy for Wakefield home games is ONE parent allowed per visiting team roster member. No passes accepted. Thank you and Go Rams!
Child Check will be on Friday, February 26, from 9am-12pm at the preschool. To schedule an appointment or for more information call 785-293-5243 or email jodyhelton@usd379.org.
Blue Valley Ag students are dividing up various tubers during Horticulture Class in the FFA Greenhouse. This lab helps them learn about the diverse types of plant propagation!
Tonight’s MS games against Washington Co. and monday against Hanover will all take place in the old gym due to some heating problems in the new gym. Games will still start at 4:30. Thank you
Live stream is up and running! Head on over to the Blue Valley Rams Live YouTube page to watch the Lady Rams take on the Axtell Eagles at 4:30pm.
COVID UPDATE FROM SUPERINTENDENT EFFECTIVE 1-21-2021
Hello Blue Valley Community,
As of today we have new COVID Quarantine Guidelines from the Health Department. Here are the details:
Starting tomorrow, we will only use the date of test (we will no longer use symptom onset date) in determining timelines for quarantine and isolation. We will go back 48-hours from test date to determine any close contacts.
We will also allow concurrent quarantine timelines for families whose children are in grade 7-12. It will not be an option for anyone in school Grades K-6 and Preschool. In order for a family to qualify for concurrent timelines, the POSITIVE must have a separate bathroom (with at least a toilet, sink, and shower/bathtub), and separate bedroom for the positive individual. The bathroom should be attached to the bedroom so the positive person doesn’t have to leave the room or walk through any common spaces. (For example, if they have an entire basement to themselves, it doesn’t need to be attached)
This is a decision we made in order to get kids back in school faster, especially our older students who may have a significant impact on their education if they miss more than 10 days of school.
Lots of daily work goes into caring for our Ag program's Shelter Animals by Blue Valley Ag students! Great job Animal Science class and huge thanks to our Student Animal Shelter Board led by Grace Johnson and Madison O'Shea!
Blue Valley boys play tonight at 7:30 against Washington County. The game can be watch on bv live stream. Good luck and go rams!

Message 2 of 3. COVID Testing Kits
The school District in conjunction with the Riley County Health Department will provide saliva based COVID test kits t to students and staff who are symptomatic. The test kits are given to students and staff who are symptomatic to complete at home. There is no cost for the test. You have to complete the test at home, package it, then call FEDEX to schedule a free pick up date and time. It goes to the lab and the results are shared with the Riley County Health Department. Our school nurse will be notified and can easily check on the status of the results. This is meant to speed up the process. We can also give additional test kits to family members of symptomatic students at the request of the parent or guardian of that student. If you decide not to use the kit, you will still need to contact your health care professional for a test. You will have to be cleared by the health department or doctor before returning to school/work.
As we continue to keep our schools open, it is also important to remind everyone that each of us are responsible for keeping kids in school. If you or your student aren't feeling well or are symptomatic, call a doctor for guidance and get tested. Or, call the school for a free kit. We have done everything we can do at school to make it as safe and sanitary as possible. With the new COVID strain being reportedly more contagious than what have been dealing with, it is important that each of us recognize our role in prevention and stopping the spread of the virus.
Message 1 of 3. COVID Guideline reveiw.
With the start of school this week. It is a good time to update everyone on our COVID Protocols. I received guidance from the health department on our new quarantine times, direct contact concerns, antibody testing and living in the same house with a confirmed positive case.
If you are a direct contact of a positive case, you will have to quarantine for 10 days. If you are a direct contact of someone living in your household, you will complete their 10 days isolation time, then you go into quarantine for your exposure for another 10 days. Any person who has tested positive will carry antibodies for 90. At the end of the 90 days, the quarantine cycle starts over for you even if a doctor says you still have the antibodies.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!!!!
I need to apologize now for the messages you will be getting from me. I feel it is easier to read several short messages rather than give you a lot of information in one really long message.
The messages will be about: Updating you on COVID Guidelines, COVID Testing Kits, a perception survey for you complete and tell me how I am doing.
Dear middle school parents,
In the past years MS students have had the opportunity to change class at semester in MS band and take integrated science. Due to limit staff at the middle school no students can transfer from band to integrated science this year. Mrs. Ellis class is at full capacity. Thank you for your cooperation. Mr. Mazouch
